Nordic Walking developed as a fitness activity for skiers in the off season. Specially designed poles are used so that both upper and lower body are excercised, making it more effective than regular walking. It can be undertaken by anyone regardless of age or ability but training by a qualified instructor is recommended and we have organised several training classes. More classes will be arranged, depending on demand.
Thanks to support from Sport NI, we have purchased a number of sets of Nordic Poles so that beginners can sample the activity before they purchase their own poles.
The walks continue all year round. The regular group meets on Tuesdays at 14:00 in different locations with a choice of a short walk of around 30 minutes or a longer walk of up to 1 hour. Please come early for a 5 minutes warm up before starting. A group for very slow walkers meets every Thursday at 14:30 at the Trim Trail in Coleraine. (Note the change of venue since Harbour Hill in Portstewart proved to be too busy for parking in the summer.)
